Revised plan for Bassetts - update

Persimmon will be updating the Parish Council about the progress of their revisions to the plans for Bassetts Farm at a public meeting on 15 August at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.

Matthew Besant, Senior Planning Manager for Persimmon Homes Southeast, has told the Parish Council that he would like to update them on strategy, initial proposals and timeframes for the Bassetts Farm revised plan.

However, the revised plans will not be presented as they are still being worked on.

Mr Besant has said that it is his intention to hold a public consultation event on amended plans towards the end of September, details to be confirmed.

Although we are unsure how much will be revealed at the meeting on 15 August, we think that it is important that Persimmon sees the level of village interest in the plans.

We would like to urge parishioners to attend the meeting on 15 August so that Persimmon fully appreciate the level of interest and concern there is around this proposed development, even if the details are likely to be few.

Please do tell your neighbours and friends as not everyone will have access to the digital communications we are sending out.

Other news from the Bassetts Farm Forum

We continue to work in a number of areas to achieve the best outcome for the village with the regard to the proposed development:

  • Following the adoption of the Neighbourhood Plan, we are focussing on the policies within it to ensure the village's intentions are fully considered by the Parish Council, the Planning Officers, the Planning Committee Members and Persimmon. Objections to planning applications which are based in policy must be taken into account.

  • We asked the Parish Council to conduct a new traffic survey at the eastern end of Goudhurst Road, which happened between the 5 July and 18 July. We are looking at the data and will be sharing the results here, and with the officials who need to take full account of the impact of any new development proposals on the safety of our roads.

  • We continue to research the National Planning Policy Framework, Dark Sky initiatives, Sustainable Development protocols and Design Guides along with other national and local policies and precedents which can provide the basis for challenge to inappopriate design schemes - and whether any proposal can truly be sustainably delivered.

Potential future dates for the Planning Committee Decision Meeting

We know that the Planning Committee takes the weight of residents' opinions very seriously, alongside the national and borough need for new housing.

For that reason, we will be urging as many people as possible to attend the meeting once we know its date. We monitor this closely. With the proposed amendments to the planning application as yet unseen, we do not know how this might affect the timing of it coming before the Tunbridge Wells Planning Committee.

Please mark your calendar with the potential dates below - and we will update you when we know the actual date.

We suggest that everyone consider car pooling and could look into other shared transport options to take people to the Committee meeting. Is this something you think would be useful? Would you be able to provide lifts to people who want to attend but might otherwise be unable to? Please drop us a line with your thoughts: bassettsfarmforum@gmail.com.
